Founded in 1980 in Porto Alegre and directed by Marga Pasquali since 1986, Bolsa de Arte is a gallery that played a decisive role in consolidating contemporary art in southern Brazil and that, today, renews and expands this legacy. Since its founding, Bolsa’s program has remained attentive both to the foundational questions of art history and to the emergence of contemporary thought. In this sense, it has followed key historical names while also betting on young artists who would go on to gain recognition over time.
Between 2014 and 2024, the gallery also maintained a location in São Paulo, building an active bridge between the two cities’ art scenes. In 2026, entering into a new partnership with Almeida & Dale, Bolsa is closing its São Paulo space to concentrate its activities in Porto Alegre and reaffirm the focus of its institutional project. This move reflects a strategic position within the partnership, establishing a hub for broader dialogue and strengthening connections between the Mercosur art circuit, other regions of Brazil, and the global scene.
Bolsa understands artistic production as a plural tool for knowledge and human development. Its program brings together generational, contextual, and artistic diversity, seeking a balance between cohesion and breadth. Working with artists from different trajectories, the gallery is engaged both in consolidating legacies and in fostering ongoing research, recognizing the importance of past movements while activating conversations, languages, and dynamics that shape the contemporary landscape.
