André Severo develops an artistic practice that incorporates a multiplicity of languages as both foundation and method. Over three decades of work, the artist articulates photography, video, installation, drawing, painting, and publication in projects that unfold beyond a single gesture or object, often incorporating context itself as a constitutive part of the work. His pieces depart from operations of displacement of images, architectures, and situations, that tension the relationships between memory, perception, and experience. Houses, landscapes, fragments of everyday life, and codes from art history are reconfigured as unstable structures, in which the real is continuously filtered, edited, and reinscribed. By bringing together procedures from the archive, cinema, and empirical observation, the artist constructs images that oscillate between document and fiction, between presence and dissolution. More than asserting a specific medium, his practice is organized as an expanded field, in which each work functions as part of a continuous investigation into the ways of seeing, inhabiting, and narrating the world.
