Letícia Lopes (1988, Campo Bom) develops a painting traversed by atmospheres of ambiguity and suspension. Drawing on art books, photographs, postcards, and encyclopedias as iconographic sources, she reorganizes images of the world into compositions of her own, displacing their original meanings and leading them into a territory of perceptual instability. Through dense layers of dark tones, she brings forth vibrant points of light that tension the pictorial field between concealment and revelation. Whether on cotton, linen, or paper, her smoky gesture underscores the unstable nature of her figures, which emerge as apparitions — intense and, at the same time, on the verge of dissolving. Wild animals, indiscernible bodies, and hybrid forms inhabit nocturnal scenes marked by a fluid dramaturgy, in which clarity gives way to mirage. Rather than constructing fixed narratives, the artist opts for a painting of sensation, in which the viewer is summoned to move through dense atmospheres populated by presences in transit, oscillating between inscription and disappearance. In this way, her work plays with the structures that orient the gaze, opening space for zones of ambivalence in which desire, danger, and vulnerability coexist.
