The gestural repertoire of Mauro Fuke materializes in sculptural bodies marked by the delicate balance between density and delicacy. His wood pieces, carved with precision and gentleness, always reveal a sense of harmony, even when asymmetrical. Through geometric and arithmetic calculations, the artist transforms algorithms into volumes, directly engaging with the golden ratio. With these operations, the artist unveils the underlying nature of things, creating forms that address the chaos and order that structure the universe. Between the hardness of the material and the organic nature of gestures, between mathematics and play, his organic forms, which seem to evolve with intrinsic freedom, always reflect ideas of movement and transformation. His modulations sometimes evoke something familiar from the world — incorporating human elements, flora, fauna, or objects — yet always maintaining an aspiration toward the indiscernible form.
Throughout his career, Fuke has held solo exhibitions at Galeria Tina Presser (1983 and 1986, Porto Alegre); Galeria ARCO (1986, São Paulo); Bolsa de Arte (1985 and 1999, Porto Alegre); Museu Guido Viaro (1996, Curitiba); Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul – MARGS (2002, Porto Alegre); Instituto Tomie Ohtake (2003, São Paulo); Baró Cruz (2006, São Paulo); and Instituto Ling (2021, Porto Alegre).
Among the many group exhibitions he has participated in, highlights include the iconic exhibition “Como vai você, Geração 80?” (1984, EAV Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro), as well as: “Na trama do espiritual da arte brasileira” (2003, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo); “80/90 Modernos, pós-modernos, etc” (2007, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo); “Laços do Olhar” (2008, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo); and “Fullgás” (2024), a traveling exhibition organized by CCBB.
He has also participated in the Panorama de Arte Brasileira (1985, 1988, and 1991) and the Bienal do Mercosul (1999, 2005, and 2024). His work is part of the collections of the Fundação Iberê Camargo (Porto Alegre), Museu de Arte Moderna – MAM (São Paulo), and Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul – MARGS (Porto Alegre).
